Our pic of the week is of a swimmer doing butterfly. We had to do some photography this week, and well, just thought this one came out pretty cool. Enjoy.

Hey, Glenn, for those of us running at higher resolutions (1920x1200, in my case), is there any chance we could get access to some of these in native resolution?

Glad you liked it Jane. This shows the width of the hand entry on butterfly for this particular swimmer.

It is a great photo like all the photos and vidios on this site, but is it good butterfly technique? I thought the hands should stay high and outsweep with palms facing outwards

Good point Alain. Again, I think this is going to be based on the swimmer. Depending on their "personal" skills, the hands will enter in different ways. While this swimmer is just a bit flatter than I'd like to see her, she's currently got a more forward and back stroke, rather than an outsweeping entry. I've also been watching more and more of the high level flyers really extending forward, so as her hands have JUST entered the water, her momentum is still carrying her forward, and sweeping the hands out TOO quickly has the potential of cutting off that flow forward. Not saying you're wrong at all, just pointing out there's always so much more than we can show in a single pic. Thanks for the post.
